Monday Morning- Virginia Beach
The onshore breeze filters through the open windows of the beachfront house. The curtains flutter has the sun slowly rises out of the churning ocean. With the storm well offshore but not moving, the rough seas spray salt up into the air, putting a soft rhythm against the side of the house. Her eyes open as she lays on the couch, still dressed as she was two nights ago, when everything went down...
It's really real.
She looks around the now half-empty house. Pictures gone off the wall. Momentos cleared off of television stands and end tables. A few reminders of what was, still remain. Jana reaches over as she sees her phone blinking on the table. She swipes the phone and looks. After a few quick taps, she presses a button, setting her phone back on the table.
Well that was unexpected.
She looks towards the window, seeing the sun slowly rising into the sky. Getting to her feet, she meanders through the clutter of boxes that still remain in the living room. Heading to the kitchen door, she opens and sees that the garage is empty but the Pod doors are closed as it sits outside in the driveway.
They’re gonna be here tomorrow to pick that up.
Embers of the fire from two nights ago still remain in the fire pit dugout along the Beach dunes. A wisp of smoke tried to trail upward, but it’s dissipated quickly by the breeze towards the house.
It wasn't supposed to be like this. It was supposed to be forever.
Jana walks back into the living room. A light flashing on her phone from another message. Picking it up and viewing the message, she simply shakes her head.
Congratulations he says.
She sighs, collapsing on the couch. She starts to lean over ready to cry once again but stops herself.
I can't keep doing this. I have to move on. He obviously has and I can't…. I can't dwell on it.
She taps a few buttons on her phone and then gives a slight smile.
Yeah.. That’s it. That’s what I gotta do. I've got to take that first step.
She looks at herself in the mirror on the wall, seeing her hair a mess and tear streaks still on her cheeks. She chuckles to her self and starts to take a selfie in the mirror then shakes her head no.
Maybe after I take a shower.
She walked over to the bathroom, slides in then closes the door behind her.
Monday Afternoon- Virginia Beach
Well I didn't burn the house down making lunch and I managed to actually get a few things done too.
In a clean tank top and shorts, Jana sits at her computer, finalizing the last tweet about taking the first step and enjoying a few bites of a grilled cheese sandwich. She scans through and sees an icon in the lower corner.
“You’ve Got Mail!”
She laughs to herself as she checks three new emails that just popped in.
Key West Florida? That would be different. That one's new. I'm not sure about that guy and I know he was with… THEM but I didn't know him that well. I thought I could trust THEM too and then all that went down and I don't trust anyone associated with THEM. Maybe I'm being too cynical. At least putting down Kaden as a reference was a good idea. I just wonder if I I'm cut out for Royalty.
The icon pops up again in the lower left corner, which brings another smile to her face.
Instead of three, we’ll make it four. I remember seeing a Prada on my timeline. I’ll have to do some more research on them.
The phone rings a very familiar chime as it sits on the table. She stands up, walks over and taps the phone, putting it on speaker.
Baby are you okay?
Yes Mama, I’m fine.
You didn’t answer earlier.
I was in the shower. Had to change the oil in my hair.
Laughter is heard.
So, you don't need us to help pack up anything?
No Mama. Lex got most of everything yesterday while I was out walking around. And what he left, it's nothing that I can't handle. There’s a Pod carrier here, and they’re coming tomorrow to pick it up and take it… wherever he wants to be
We just wanted to make sure everything was okay.
I know Mama. Can I ask you a question, Mama?
Of course baby, you can ask anything you like.
Did you ever have anything like this happen?
Not quite like this but losing your father, it's probably the worst thing that had ever happened to me when it comes to relationships.
But you found Todd and everything went well.
A brief moment of silence fills the room.
It did but it was nearly two years before I opened up enough to let somebody in. I had you to take care of. I had my job too. There just wasn't time to jump back into things with somebody.
Are you saying I should take some time away and just let it go?
Only you know that, baby. It's going to hurt for a while just like Kaden did.
I remember. It did then I talked with Kris and then ended up talking to Lex and that was over a year ago.
But you rebounded very quickly back with Lex.
I honestly thought I needed to. It felt right to. It's not that I didn't love him then. It's not that I don't love him now. But decisions were made, so what more can you do, right?
You just have to take that first step, baby, and just keep moving forward. Sooner or later, it's all going to be replaced. You'll find someone else, just like you found Lex after Kaden.
What helped you get over Daddy dying?
You'll think it's crazy but I cut one of the best promos I ever had. It was in the middle of the Ring with you standing beside of me. It had absolutely nothing to do with an opponent and everything to do with your father. And everything to do with one opponent that nobody can beat. That's Death.
Jana stops for a second then looks at her phone.
What?
Yeah I cut a promo on Death. Five to One says Rusty's got a copy of that promo somewhere if it survived in the archives. You may want to get in touch with him and see if it's there.
I'll take a look for Mama. I'll call you tomorrow I got a few things I got to do around here.
Okay baby we love you. Call us whenever you're ready. Bye baby.
Bye Mama. Love you too.
Jana taps the phone off then sends a quick text as she finishes the last bite of her sandwich. A quick text comes back and she taps a link. Audio comes from her phone.
“Thank you for all the kind words and memories you’ve shared with us the last few days. Jack would be embarrassed by it all but Jana and I appreciate every word…”
Monday Evening- Virginia Beach
Rock music blares in the empty garage, save for a single heavy bag hanging in the corner. The camera shakes as it zooms out, focused on the heavy bag and the surrounding area.
I was told by a few people to film myself so I can work on technique. See my mistakes and then work on getting things right.
Jana walks into the view, settling in beside the heavy bag. Her hair pulled back into a ponytail, wearing yoga pants and lycra top, Jana begins to pepper the weighted bag with gloved punches. She throws a series of punches then a right foot to the lower part of the bag. She stumbles back and lands another kick.
Why?
She throws a few more punches, each one getting sloppier in technique.
Why Dammit Why?
She drives a knee into the heavy bag and stumbles backwards. Jana charges at the heavy bag and throws haymakers wildly, tears streaming down her face with each punch.
You left. Had to clear your head, you said. Left me behind. I'll be back, you said. I let you go and… and…
Jana lands another kick then spins around with a back fist. Bricks. His move. She stops. The realization comes to her and she simply grabs the heavy bag, sobbing.
You told me. I Gotchu. You told me. It’ll all be ok. You told me.
She steps back and lands punch after punch on the heavy bag. She rips off the gloves and throws them away then lands more and more punches. Her sobbing stops and is replaced with screams. She takes a step back and wails at the heavy bag.
It’s Not Ok!. It’s NOT OK! IT WILL NEVER BE OK!!!
She lands a series of kicks then more punches, bloodying up her knuckles, leaving red marks on the light colored heavy bag. She spins and hits a back fist. Then another, then a third.
I loved you. I loved you when everyone thought I was crazy. I loved you when everyone came at you, criticized you, and I stood beside of you. I fought for you. And I loved you enough to let you find yourself while I went down, busted my butt, fell on barbed wire, won my first ever Pay per view match and the WildCard Title…. And you weren’t there. I saw the posts after the show with Plant and the crowd there, somewhere… but you weren’t there with me in Florida.
She flails at the heavy bag, blood dripping from her hands then she looks at the camera.
I was there in Shoot with you. I was there in WWH with you. I even got in the ring because of you. And anywhere you went. … I was there. I was always there. But not any more. This is my first step ahead. I loved you. I made you my world.
She steps towards the camera.
But I’m taking it back, Lex. Jana Rikar is not yours anymore. I Gotchu? No, I got this. Tick Tick Boom goes the Dynamite!
She spins, her fist coming into the camera. The view changes abruptly and the camera falls to the side, ending up continue to film. Jana’s feet are seen as she walks towards the wall. She leans against the wall and falls to the floor, pulling her knees up to her face, trying to fight the tears from falling, but fails as she leans her head against her knees. The camera sparks then the view goes black.
Tuesday Morning- Virginia Beach
That's 'Babe', the latest from Sugarland and Taylor Swift. I'm Dave Parker and it's a beautiful day here in the Tidewater. If you're heading to the beaches, watch out for the rip currents as Chris sits out off the coast for one more day. We're in the middle of 106 minutes of non-stop music with the latest from Brett Young. Here's 'Mercy' on US 106.1
The radio plays in the background as Jana finishes putting a few more odds and ends into one last box. Wearing a tank and shorts, her hands are bandaged with gauze after last nights workout session as she places one last momento into the box.
Mercy
She picks up the box and slowly walks from room to room.
Why you gotta show up lookin' so good just to hurt me?
Why you wanna stop this whole damn world from turning?
Jana looks over at a picture of her and Lex when they first bought the beachouse then places it in the box.
Mercy
Why you hanging on so tight if this ain't working?
Why you wanna stop this flame if it's still burning?
Cause it's still burning
So if you're gonna break my heart, just break it
And if you're gonna take your shot, then take it
Take it
If you made up your mind, then make it
But make this fast
She picks it up and places the shirt into the box.
If you ever loved me
Have mercy
Walking into the living room, she sees a bottle of wine from the Vancouver Winery. The label reads - “For Jana and Lex, Best Wishes.”
If you go out tonight and get drunk and lonely
Wind up home alone please don't call me
And say you miss me
She sighs and places the bottle in the box.
So if you're gonna break my heart, just break it
And if you're gonna take your shot, then take it
Take it
If you made up your mind, then make it
But make this fast
Scanning the room, she spots an empty candle jar, complete with a top. Setting the box on the table, she walks out through the side door. Walking back in, the candle jar is filled with sand from their beach.
If you ever loved me
Have mercy
Ma’am? Is this the last box?
If you're gonna break my heart, just break it
If you're gonna take your shot, take it
Take it
Oh if you're gonna break my heart, just break it
And if you're gonna take your shot, then take it
Take it
If you made up your mind, then make it
But make this fast
She walks into the bedroom and then walks back out, wearing her wedding ring. She eyes it closely and smiles.
If you ever loved me
Mmmh if you ever loved me
She takes the ring off and places it in the jar. Taking the top, she seals the candle jar and places it in the last box.
Have mercy
She closes the box and nods at the mover.
Oh have mercy
Thank ya, Ma’am. We’ll be out of your way now.
Thanks
Oh have mercy
The mover takes the last box and walks out through the kitchen to the Pod. She trails behind as he places the box in the Pod and closes the doors. The moving company lifts the Pod onto the flatbed truck and drives away. Jana watches it and smiles. She throws up two fingers then closes the door.
Have mercy
